Overview
Mount Kilimanjaro, located in northeastern Tanzania, is the highest mountain in Africa, standing at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level. It is a free-standing, dormant volcanic mountain and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Kilimanjaro is renowned for its breathtaking beauty and its diverse ecosystems, which range from tropical rainforests at the base to alpine deserts and glaciers near the summit.
The mountain has three main volcanic cones: Kibo (the highest peak), Mawenzi, and Shira. Kibo’s summit, Uhuru Peak, is the ultimate destination for climbers. The ascent of Kilimanjaro is unique because it doesn’t require technical climbing skills; instead, trekkers hike through various climate zones, experiencing different flora and fauna along the way.
